Durham Congregations in ActionFollowing are opportunities to gain information about gun violence, poverty and health, and domestic violence, provided through the Durham Congregations in Action, of which Holy Cross is a member.

“Every Life Sacred: The Urgency to End Gun Violence”

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 7:00 PM | Duke Chapel.  In the wake of recent gun violence across the nation and in Durham, this Bridge Panel public conversation seeks to bring urgency to ending the pain and suffering it causes. Chapel Dean Luke A. Powery moderates this discussion with faith, academic, and civic leaders, including: Durham Police Chief Cerelyn Davis; Dr. Kristin Goss; Kevin D. Gorter, professor of public policy and political science at Duke; Rev. Ben Haas, executive director of the Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham. Fall 2019 Poverty Symposium: “The Social Determinants of Health”

Thursday, October 10, 9 AM -12:30 PM | B.N. Duke Auditorium, held in conjunction with the Duke University College of Behavioral and Social Science. Congressman G.K. Butterfield, the keynote speaker, will be joined by a number of experts to examine the social determinants of poverty and of health. Check back for more information coming soon. 

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month

Wednesdays, 12 to 1 PM, October 9, 16, and 23. | 206 N. Dillard St., Durham. Join the Durham Crisis Response Center for these Wednesday luncheon programs to learn about the intersections and impacts of intimate partner violence. The “Lunch and Learn” sessions will focus on human trafficking, stalking and cyber safety, and mental health and disability. Click here for more information
