CRS Rice Bowl
Start the Lenten Season in solidarity with our global family. Each Lent, Catholic families across the country unite to put their faith into action through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Through CRS Rice Bowl, families learn about how our sisters and brothers across the globe overcome hardships like hunger and malnutrition, and how through Lenten alms, we have the power to make the world a better place for all.
Greener Lent
Holy Cross is once again participating in the Greener Lent program, which helps participants to be more mindful of their meat consumption and its impact on climate change and on society’s most vulnerable members. The program builds on of Pope Francis' letter, Laudato Si' - Care for our Common Home. Following are three videos that provide insight, with viewing options for all ages.
- The Pope, the environmental crisis, and frontline leaders: Laudato Si video
- An animated video for teens and adults. A copy of the Pope's letter appears at the end of this video
- An animated clip for younger children
Four levels of fasting suggested by the Greener Lent program
- Good Samaritan: Abstain from beef, but eat other meats
- John the Baptist: Abstain from beef, reduce other meats
- Mary, Mother of God: Abstain from beef, eliminate other meats
- Dorcas (Tabitha): Abstain from cheese – a new option if you are a vegetarian
